What GiftIQ is and how it works

What this site does

GiftIQ helps you find a gift for someone else. You answer five questions about the person, who they are to you, roughly how old they are, the occasion, what they are interested in and what you want to spend, and it returns gifts that fit.

The alternative is scrolling a shopping site sorted by what sells best, which tells you nothing about the person you are buying for. Sorting by the recipient rather than by popularity is the whole point of the site.

How the recommendations are made

Every product is scored against the answers you give. Age suitability is applied strictly and never relaxed: if a narrow set of answers leaves few results, you will see fewer gifts rather than gifts meant for someone else.

Products are also assessed on whether they work as a gift at all. Consumable supplements, groceries and anything for treating a medical complaint are excluded, because they are things people buy for themselves rather than things worth unwrapping.

Where the product information comes from

Prices, star ratings and review counts shown on this site come from the product listings themselves. Nothing is estimated or generated. Prices change often, so treat what you see here as a guide and check the current price on Amazon before buying: the price shown there at the time of purchase is the one that applies.

How the site makes money

GiftIQ is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program. If you buy something after following a link from this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

This does not change what gets recommended. Products are ranked by how well they fit your answers, not by what pays more. Every product on the site links to a real listing, and anything without a working link for your country is not shown to you at all.

Who runs it

GiftIQ is an independent site, built and maintained in Ontario, Canada. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by Amazon.

If you have a question, a correction or a suggestion, please get in touch. Corrections in particular are welcome: if a price looks wrong or a recommendation makes no sense, we would rather know.
